Using a Sociological Approach

Question 1

What were the key findings and conclusion from the research?

From this research, a number of conclusions and findings may be made, according to the contexts that have been discussed and researched. Firstly, it may be concluded that affordability has been one of the major challenges that have been experienced by the customers in availing better quality of the food products. It may further be addressed that the overall expenditure of time has been one of the key issues that hinder them from buying the quality foods at the affordable rates from the supermarkets. Due to the event of saving the time, the customers intend to visit the local stores and buy low-quality products at variable rates. The key findings of the research media could be highlighted as that, if the expenditure or the cost of the products is comparatively lower, it may allow them to buy the superior quality of products and food in huge quantities.

Question 2

Use one of the four major sociological theories to explain the key findings from the research article?

a) How would this theory explain the key findings or conclusion of the research in the article?

The conflict perspective of the sociological theories plays a major role in this context. It has been seen that a number of sociological theories may be efficiently applied in this research, in order to explain the conclusive evidence of the research. However, the conflict theory finds an intensive link in this context. The conflict theory states that the negative aspects of the society at large are discussed and interpreted, while the other theories aim at highlighting the positive aspects of the society. The conflict theory is aimed at highlighting the major negative issues that are associated with a particular neighbourhood or society. In this research, it has been see ........

In this research, it has been seen that the demands and the affordability of the customers from the neighbourhood are determined. This has however been analysed and researched with respect to a negative perspective. It has been seen that the major perspectives of inequality and the differences in the purchasing power of the customers have been highlighted. Therefore, it may be analysed that the theory has been aligned with the context of the economic stability and the affordability of the customers in buying the higher quality of food products from the supermarkets.

b) What limitations does this theory demonstrate in addressing the problem examined in the research article?

The major purpose of this theory is to align and to demonstrate the differences in the perspectives of the society. These have been analysed based on the differences in the religious perspectives, racial discrimination, gender discriminations, political discriminations, economic variability. Therefore, the appropriateness of this theory is not primarily on the economy and the purchasing ability of the customers. Therefore, in this research, the relationship of the conflict theory with the economy of the customers and their perspectives in buying the products from the supermarkets are widely different. In this research article, the major problem area that has been highlighted is the inability of the people to travel large distances, and at the same time inability of the customers to afford the purchase of the bulk of the higher quality of products from the supermarkets. It has been seen that they intend to buy products from the local stores that are both of the lower quality and are of higher prices. This was mainly in order to save the time for the purchase. Therefore, it may be analysed that the time constraint has been one of the major areas that have not been a part of the conflict theory.

Question 3

a) Every research study has limitations. What are the limitations of the research methods used in this research study?

In this research, it has been seen that the survey was conducted mainly within the neighbourhood areas of the case study area. Therefore, it may be assumed that the financial stability of all the people interviewed was somewhat the same in this case. Therefore, the major issue of the budget and the money has been evident in this case. Furthermore, as the supermarket was very far from the neighbourhood, therefore, a majority of the participants expressed their views about the distance of the supermarkets and the expenditure associated with the travelling to the supermarkets from their residences. This provides a serious mode of limitation to the appropriateness of the research. Although, in this research, the demand and the affordability issues of the customers have been analysed effectively, yet, this has been boxed up in a matter of only a particular neighbourhood within a particular level of income and economic stability. However, the overall demands of the customers and the affordability issues of the customers in the broader contexts have not been evident in this research. Therefore, the reliability of the research method is minimal, as only a limited number of groups of participants have been involved.

b) What additional research should be conducted to learn more about the problem examined in the article?

Since the methods used in this research is not variable, therefore, monotonous responses were observed. The research may be improved, if additional parameters of methodologies are implemented in the research. Therefore, it may be analysed that the research may be more authentic and the problems examined may be brought under more focus, if the methods of data extraction are improved. For example, the interviews may be conducted in the neighbourhood and in the areas that are at variable distances from the supermarkets. For example, some of the neighbourhoods may be interviewed that are very close to the supermarket, and some may be interviewed that are at intermediate distances. Furthermore, the neighbourhoods that may be interviewed may belong to a wide variety of economic classes, which may yield a wide variety of judgements and responses in this research. For example, a particular neighbourhood or settlement may belong to the middle-class economy, some may belong to the lower class economy and some may belong to a higher economic class.
