1.What is involved in being a successful leader?

Attributes of a Good Leader

For being a good leader there are some attributes that must be followed by a person in order to accomplish its objectives. The attributes need to be followed in all the terms for influencing the workstations in order to be a successful leader. The leader can influence and motivate the employees for getting best productivity from their work. A leader is not liable for assuming a leadership role simply because someone has assigned the title. For being a leader is very necessary to get the individual responsibilities of the work. While coming up with the primary attributes for being a leader it can be stated that a true leader is born when trust has been established on both sides (Gümüsayet al.2019). The employees must trust the leader. For leading them there are various attributes that must be followed by the leader that can be illustrated in the below section,

  • Honesty and integrity

For being a leader it is very necessary to be very much honest in front of the peers and the members no matter what the situation is. Honesty and integrity are recognized as the important ingredients for a person to be a leader. With the help of honesty and integrity a good leader can expect the followers to be more productive. Moreover, a leader is always the inspiration for the followers. For his honesty and integrity the leader will always be inspiring for the followers and they will be expected to be honest in front of their leader too. It will enhance the core values and beliefs within the floor.

  • Confidence

To be an effective leader another attribute that needs to be taken into consideration for any person is confidence. The leader must be confident enough for ensuring that all the members who are following the command have utmost value and believe. The leader is being liable to make all the effective decisions whether going to be followed in the upcoming session.  Any kind of business related decisions all are being made by the leader. If a leader is unsure regarding the conditions and qualities then the subordinates will fail to follow the Leader at their height. Being a leader the person must ensure the members with confidence to show some assertiveness. On the other hand, for gaining respect and dignity from the subordinates the leader must be confident enough (Seidelet al.2019). That does not mean to be overconfident but it is very necessary for the leader to be confident at least at a minimum level to reflect the degree of the confidence that is required to ensure the followers.

  • Commitment and passion

Another core attribute that is followed by the leader is commitment and passion. In order to build individual commitment among the subordinates it is very necessary for the leader to be committed with the corporate objectives. Moreover it can be stated that commitment and passion can influence the productivity level of the subordinates. The people who are following the leader will be inspired and motivated by realizing his passion and commitment.  By his work and the subordinates will also be inspired and will like to follow all the attributes of the leader. By influencing the commitment level among the members can be improved. It can be stated that the leader would be able to reach the position.

  • Good communication skills

With the help of good communication skills the leader will be able to make proper intervention with the team members.  Individual comments and needs of the members will come to be known by the leader. It will help to build a strong interrelationship between the subordinates and the seniors.  It will make them realize their individual significance in the workstation (.

  • Decision making capabilities

For being a leader, decision making skills are very much necessary in any adverse situation. The leader is being able to make proper decisions that are going to be followed by his or her subordinates in order to get the expected outcome and the proper solution of the situation (Daniëlset al.2019).

  • Delegation and empowerment

Delegation and empowerment are equally important. Without empowerment the leader would make the entire workflow Limited. It is very necessary to empower the subordinates in order to make them encouraged and motivated towards their works.

  • Inspiration for others

 A leader is an inspiration for others therefore he must build inspirational things for the subordinates.

Theories that must be taken into consideration for being a leader

Transformational leadership

The transformational leadership Theory is very much effective that needs to be taken into consideration by any leader with the help of transformational leadership theory is about to work in A team and the leader becomes liable to identify the required changes that are needed in the workplace. Moreover a vision is created by the leader to guide the changes through inspiration and motivation. The change is executed by the leader with committed members of a group as an integral part of the entire leadership model.

Levin’s leadership styles

Levin’s Leadership style has discovered the most effective leadership styles after all his experiments such as autocratic leadership styles, democratic and Laissez Faire Leadership Style. With the help of an autocratic leadership style the leader takes all the decisions even without having any consultation with subordinates. On the other hand in accordance to the democratic leadership style the leader is being involved with consultations with subordinates while making any decision. Moreover, Laissez Faire Leadership Style minimizes involvement and engagement of the leader in making any kind of effective decisions for this leadership style. The people are allowed to make their individual opinion regarding any kind of circumstances. This leadership style goes with the core attribute of being an effective and responsible leader. With the help of this leadership style the leader can empower his subordinates to make their effective decisions at any adverse situation in the workplace (Barnes, 2019).

 

Path Goal Theory

Another logical aspect that can be aligned with the leadership attributes is path goal theory. In accordance with the path goal theory the leader is able to identify its effective behavior and style that actually helps in the working environment and employees within the company. For receiving an expected goal and for increasing the motivation empowerment is necessary. In order to enhance the satisfaction level and employee inspiration within the workplace the leadership theories are necessary. With the help of the theories the leader can make a proper inclination with the individual requirements of the subordinate as it helps to improve their productivity level with the firm (Bäcklander, 2019).

It can be stated that in order to be a good leader it is necessary for inspiring the subordinates. It is very necessary to develop leadership and various types of leadership that can be developed and for developing leadership a certain amount of skills are required to have within the person that can help for becoming a successful leader. For being a leader and for developing leadership it is very necessary to offer assistance and proper guidance to subordinates. Some self-composed skills are necessary for the leader. Not only imposing the decisions upon others but understanding individual opinions and statements regarding any kind of circumstances of the workplace is needed to be considered by the leader. Aleader always works as an encouragement for controlling individual abilities and perceptions in an effective manner.

There are various ways for developing leadership styles such as, first of all the leader must take on more projects in a greater way for developing the leadership skills. In different situations a proper solution must be developed and it is very essential to inspire others. Great Man Theory

The great man theory has been expelled from 19th century ideas. According to this theory history can be stated where it can be prominently explained with the influence of a great man the productivity level can be influenced. Leadership Theory states that few people are born with the necessary attributes for setting them apart from others. Attributes are some traits that actually help in differentiating one person to another who is responsible for giving the position of authority and power. According to Great Man leadership Theory a leader follows a wide range of leadership traits that help him to accomplish the goals in an orderly way (Yuklet al. 2019).

Servant leadership

Another most essential and most considerable aspect that is leadership Theory that needs to be taken into consideration. Leadership Theory philosophy is very much accustomed to empowerment and inspiring others. According to the servant leadership Theory the leader is being liable to serve the subordinates. In servant leadership Theory the leader empowers the subordinates by strengths and authority to its proper way.   Individual requirements of the subordinate are being accomplished by the leader. In this theory the leader sheds primary focus for driving the individual needs and requirements of the subordinates. Servant leadership philosophy has been built on the core belief that most effective leaders try to solve the problems rather than accumulating and limiting the power within their control. It can be stated that for developing leadership a person needs to incorporate servant leadership within the workplace. With the help of servant leadership subordinates can be served well. It can be stated that in order to realize them about their individual significance and importance within the workplace and in order to inspire them is very necessary to empower them and to understand their individual requirements in a well manner.

Situational Approach

Another most considerable factor that needs to be taken into consideration in order to develop leadership is situational approach. According to the situation approach the primary focus is given on leadership in different situations. According to the situation, the employees approach the employees forward and backward in the job field and the leaders must be liable to match their work style and they must inspire and motivate the employees. In order to make a fit between their changing perceptions and working requirements (Kromidha. and Li, 2019).

Management is considered as a set of principles that is related to the functions of planning, directing, organizing and controlling. The proper applications of these principles are harnessed with financial, human, physical and information resources in an effective and efficient manner. These all principles are related to the financial, human and physical resources. These are being taken into consideration by the authority in order to achieve organizational goals. on the other hand for designing management can be stated that it is a process of decision making, organizing, leading, motivating, controlling and planning all the resources that are going to be imposed and implemented within the workplace for the process of deriving expected outcome and accomplishing the corporate objective.

Define leadership

Leadership is recognized as the ability of guiding others without forcing them into the work or a decision. It can be stated that the core attributes of leadership is to empower the peers and to make them acknowledged accordingly towards the set objectives. Leadership is considered as the process by which subordinates can be empowered and motivated towards their work. The leadership is being taken into consideration within any firm in order to achieve a common goal by motivating the people towards the common objectives in the business setting. It does mean that the workers are being directed by following a proper and effective strategy in order to meet all the company aims (Lemoineet al.  2019).

For influencing a business setting by making group collaboration among the team members the two most essential attributes that need to be taken into consideration by the authority are leadership and Management. These two aspects are very much helpful in inspiring and achieving common goals within the corporate setting. hence it must be stated that the two concepts of leadership and Management are not same thing but they are naturally linked and can be recognized as the complementary to each other by making proper separation between these two concepts leadership and Management the business can be built in an effective manner and all the problems can be solved in an effective way. It has been understood that for any company to get successful and meet all the objectives it is very essential to plan and organize effective management and for coordinating staff and inspiring, motivating them the leadership qualities are necessary. The primary differences between the leadership and management are going to be explains below,

In the case of Management the managers implement tactical action. On the other hand leadership is about creating new aims and visions for the members who are involved in the workplace. Therefore it can be stated that these two aspects are totally different from each other.

In the case of Management the manager helps to determine the budgeting and report and measure effective performances of the workers. On the other hand leadership is a kind of ability that helps to establish organizational and financial targets. With the help of Management different rules and policies can be applied within the workplace. With the help of implementation disciplinary rules, individual pairs can be directed towards efficient corporate goals. On the other hand the leaders are liable to make new rules and policies the discipline rules are also being prepared by the leaders. By considering the contemporary aspects and current situation in the case of Management the people and workers within the structures are being organized. The recruitment process of the employees is also considered as an effective role and liability of the manager (Crawford and Kelder, 2019). On the other hand the structures of the organizations are being decided by the leaders. The managers are liable for managing and checking the morals and ethics whether they are being followed during the working hours or not. On the other hand the leaders are liable to establish ethical and moral approaches. Problem solving, planning and improving the productivity and efficiency level of the employees are considered as the primary liabilities that must be followed by the manager. Equallyvisualizing, exploring new business opportunities and organizing succession for the company are considered as the primary responsibilities of a good leader.The managers are liable to delegate and make arrangements for training. On the other hand for getting appropriate outcomes of the training sessions motivating and delegating the employees are considered as the primary responsibility of the leaders (Karatepeet al. 2019).

For example a leader always tries to motivate his team members towards the corporate objective. It is not sufficient that only that leader is liable and responsible for meeting all the corporate objectives; perhaps it is very much necessary to work in a team for the leader without inspiring and motivating the team members. A leader cannot be able to achieve any corporate goals within the workplace. It can be stated that a manager is liable to set objectives and impose different disciplines within the organization but with the proper collaboration and initiative of the leader the subordinates of any firm can be motivated and inspired towards its corporate objectives.

 

4.What have you learnt about leadership from your own experiences, on this course and elsewhere?

Own experiences

While summing up the own experience as it can be stated that being involved in the academic Institutions leadership it is being found in a very absolute manner the leaders are always being involved in motivating and inspiring the team members. It has been found that the leaders within the workplace have their own limitations and disciplines they are being directed towards it. It has been found that during any kind of experiments, excursion and project development the leaders play a very vital role in inspiring the team members. In this respect the servant leadership concept can be imposed by which the leaders are able to set the primary objective to serve the team members (Reardon et al. 2019).

Some of the theories you learn in the module

Different theories have been learnt from the models are the servant leadership Theory, path goal theory, situational leadership and transformational leadership Theory. On the other hand, man theory has also been learnt from the session that has enough impact on the information that has been accumulated (Sosiket al. 2019). It has been understood that with the help of transformational leadership the leaders are being able to identify the requirement of any kind of changes within the workplace. On the other hand, the leaving story has discovered the autocratic democratic concepts where it has been identified that empowerment is the best policy to direct the employees within the expected outcome. Equally it has been found that the effective leadership Theory has imposed that the leader takes all the decisions without having any consultation with the subordinates. It has been found that with help of servant leadership the leaders are always able to set the primary objective to solve the problems of the members by identifying their individual needs (Anet al. 2019)

Learned Lesson from the module

It has been found from the module that leadership is very much necessary to accomplish all the set objectives. Moreover with the help of leadership Theory the subordinates and the peers can be motivated towards their work. It has been found that there are certain differences between management and leadership both have different objectives. Hence these two aspects have enough requirements and necessary roles for influencing the business setting and influence the productivity level of the members (Lovelace et al. 2019).
