Chronic Conditions Prevention And Management

1. Introduction

Several natural calamities may be faced by the people on this earth, and each of them has severe impact on the human well being. In spite of all of that, the heat wave in early 2009 in Australia may be considered as the most severe environmental disturbance. This assignment has mainly focused on to narrate the situation while the people suffer from this type of chronic condition. Other than that, the project has included aims and objectives of providing a systematic solution to the situation. It may also describe the mental condition of the people those are suffering from the situation.

2. Description of the setting, subpopulation or population of the choices

Cowan et al. (2014) have commented that this situation was mainly affected the areas like Victoria, South Australia, Northern Tasmania, New South Wales, etc. This heat wave was commenced at the end of January. It resulted from a record-breaking high temperature that was lasted for a long time. It is being considered as the most extreme situation in the country. It includes the highest daytime as well as the overnight temperature. During this chronic situation, more than fifty locations have made several records. The highest temperature was 48.8 degrees C that has been recorded during this time.

Palmer et al. (2014) have added that several locations in this time throughout the region has recorded the temperature that is higher than ever. Even, the capital cities Adelaide have reached to almost the third highest temperature. It was 45.7 degree C. On the other hand, Melbourne also get affected due to this situation and the temperature of here was 46.4 degree C. It was the result of a slow-moving highest pressure system, which was being settled in the Tasman Sea. It was a combination ........

It was a combination of the deep tropical low. It was located on the North West coast of Australia.

However, that was not ended in 2009 only. Perkins & Alexander (2013) have opined that 2013 and 2014 both the years were equally responsible for such heat wave in the country. The entire population was being affected by this extreme temperature. Mainly the graziers, as well as the farmers, have suffered. Due to extra heat, no such rainfall had been there which was a traumatic situation for the farmers. Most of their corps had been ruined. It was a tremendous mental pressure for them. In the semi-arid areas, a rise of almost 2C might lead to the loss of additional 0.2 mm to 2. mm water. Besides that, it has been noticed that in the year of 2013 almost 11% corps have been down.

It was dangerous for the overall country. Gronlund et al. (2014) have included that on the other hand, the food borne diseases have taken a devastating form and started attacking the people. A recent study has explored that almost 10,000 gastroenteritis patients have been treated at that time. It was the reason of the link that may occur in between food poisoning as well as the hot weather. It indicates that the human bodies have rejected to adjust with the environment due to the extraordinary heart and thus several diseases attacked them. On the other hand, fighting with bushfire became another complicated situation at that time.

Victoria was the place where most of the people suffer from the hit of bush fire in 2013. Even, the people of West Australia as well as South Australia are also suffered due to bushfires. Parker et al. (2014) have opined that the entire country has suffered a lot sue to this situation. Mainly the productivity of the country has hampered a lot. Especially the working outdoors those were doing physically active jobs or worked in air conditioning have suffered a lot. Most importantly, the entire people were living in such a stressful and hot weather which was unbearable for them. Not only the physical disturbance, this situation was against a peaceful mind as well. Thus, the people of the country has suffered from a tremendous mental trauma. It leads physical as well as mental illness. Even, it has also been noticed that most of the people cannot forget those days. They often talk about that situation which was too much traumatic to them.

3. Aim of the project and three S.M.A.R.T objectives

The aim of the project is to identify the mental as well as physical disturbance of the people in Australia that they have been faced due to the chronic situation during the heat wave. The learner has discussed about the overall situation and the condition of the sufferers as well. However, three SMART objectives have been narrated here in support of the project:

Objective 1: To identify the chronic situation of heat wave that has been suffered by the people in Australia

Specific

According to Bjerke & Renger (2017), smart refers here the specific objective. It indicates that the learner would determine a specified objective. It was a situation which affects both the mental and physical stability of the people.  The people in both the areas such as rural and urban have been affected equally. Even, after such a severe condition of 2009, the people in some places have started assuming the upcoming situation. Therefore this assumption could help them to cure the issue to some extent.

Measurable

Ratcliffe (2016) has opined that measurable means that the objective should be meaningful. It can be measured as the mental and physical stress due to this wave heat can be assumed easily. Both the rural as well as the urban people were being affected due to this chronicle situation.

Attainable

As stated by Ogbeiwi (2017), the goal or the objective should be attainable. For that the learner should ensure that by which way the goal would be accomplished. This objective can be achieved easily. this objective is all about to identify and discuss the chronic situation that has been occurred due to a heat wave.

Relevant

Rice et al. (2016) have discussed that the objective should have the relevancy with the topical concept. This objective is obviously realistic because while analyzing the effect of that heat it can be easily identified that how much the people were being affected due to the heat wave.

Time table

Cormier & Elliott (2017) have stated that the learner should follow a stipulated time schedule to complete that objective. Even, it should ensure that the deadline needs not to be missed anyhow. The learner has decided to meet this objective within one month from the starting of the research.

Objective 2: To recognize the post-heat wave trauma among the people

Specific

It was such as horrible situation for the people in Australia. After the massive heat wave attack of 2009, it was a panic for all the people there. Therefore, assessing the post-heat trauma in this regard is highly significant.

Measurable

The post heat trauma can be easily measurable as it is for sure that the people were in the big problem.

Attainable

This objective is obviously achievable. While conducting this project, the learner would gather related data, and it would help the learner to meet the objective.

Relevant

This is obviously a realistic objective. In this objective, the  learner has only asked to identify the traumatic mental condition of the people those have suffered from the condition of extreme heat.

Time table

The learner has granted 4 weeks for this activity.

Objective 3: To identify the capability among the people those have survived this heat wave

Specific

Through this objective, the learner would come across the mental stability of the people those have survived the heat wave. In addition, it would also analyze the physical stress that has been faced by the people in Australia.

Measurable

Apparently, it is a warm weather that has affected the country. In other words, it had a tremendous effect on the psychological and physical conditions of the people.

Attainable

It would not be a big deal for the learner to attain this objective. While composing the assignment, it is quite obvious that the learner would come to know about the mental and physical stresses of the victims.

Relevant

This objective is obviously relevant to the topic. Gathering knowledge about the psychological and physical stress of the survivors. Even, the current situation of them would also be informed to the learner.

Time table

It would take six weeks to get a proper knowledge about the capability of the people those have survived the heat wave.

4. Discussion of the chosen strategies to address the aims and objectives

The primary aim of this report is to identify as well as understand the psychological and physical trauma of people which have been faced due to the heat wave in Australia. The learner would also analyze the post-mental condition of the heat wave. This is so much important as it has affected the daily lives and several people have been died due to this extreme heat wave. Thus, it has created a panic of living alone or losing the loved one. In addition, tremendous physical distress should also be included. However, based on this aim the learner has developed a strategy that may help the people to overcome such critical situation.

Parker, Berry & Reeder (2014) have commented that it has been noticed that after 2009, a large number of people were too much afraid of suffering from such heat wave in the country. In spite of that, when it has been repeated in 2013 and 2014 again, then it was completely unbearable to the people of the nation. However, if needed the highly traumatic people can visit the counselors as regular counseling may reduce the effect of such panic. The counselors can help the victims in this regard as the incident was not at all major and thee is not a high chance to be repeated. This is true that the doctors cannot predict the nature at all, but apparently, they can console the patients by saying such thing.

Other than that, the people also need to be careful if the situation my arrive again. Turner, Connell & Tong (2013) have mentioned that some precautions are needed especially when such heat wave may occur. The people should consult with the doctor again and should follow their instructions. Otherwise, lots of diseases can attack them. Most importantly, such unbearable heat can hamper the daily life of the people as well, and it can snatch the lives of people too. The elderly people, as well as the children, should be taken under special care. Usually, they suffer more than the young or middle-aged people. Other than that, the people those have to go out every day due to some unavoidable circumstances like their jobs, schools or else. They should advise to the doctors immediately and should take required precautions.

However, by analyzing such fact, the learner is now capable of developing strategies in accordance to it. Most importantly, the objectives should be aligned to the strategies. The learner has developed three different strategies for three objectives. The first objective is all about to identify the chronic situation of the country that has been occurred because of the heat wave. For achieving this objective, the learner needs to focus on the situation when the heat wave has arrived. For meeting this objective, the learner needs to gather information from the people those have already witnessed this situation. Apart from that, several newspaper copies and the website news may also help the researcher to know about that situation. Even, for a better and clearer conception, the learner can collect knowledge about the heat wave in general. It may also help to ensure the condition of the place.

Purich et al. (2014) have commented that the after effect of a natural calamity among the people are too severe. They usually started considering themselves helpless and lonely. Thus, the confidence level may be declined. In the second objective, the learner would focus on the post-heat wave mental as well as physical condition of the people. For that, the learner has decided to talk to the people directly. The inner feeling of them can only be exposed by them properly. This objective would be attained depending on the primary research. For a support, the learner can avail the books which may discuss the post-traumatic  condition of natural calamity. On the other hand, several news papers should be consulted where the interviews of some victims have been published. It may provide an idea about the mental condition of the people as well.

The third objective is about to identify the capabilities that have been needed in a person for tolerating such condition. This is again a fact that has been described by the victims only. Yet, for understanding the mental and physical affects, the learner needs to consult with the doctors as they would be able to provide more information regarding this.

Timeline

1. To identify the chronic situation of heat wave that has been suffered by the people in Australia

Discuss with the victims and should gather information from several news papers and journals.

The learner would talk to the people n Australia those have already suffered from a heat wave. If needed online survey can also be appreciable. Other than that, journals related to natural calamity should be gone through.

A number of individuals would talk to the learner and should minimize the level of panic.

The learner should consider this case with full of sympathy and understanding. Thus, the people would feel free to talk about it.

For completing this objective, a surveyor is needed who could be able to gather information from that area or even the learner can serve this job by own as well.

1 month has been allotted for achieving this objective

2. To recognize the post-heat wave trauma among the people

For achieving this objective, the learner again should talk to the victims

While analyzing the  post-traumatic situation, the only survey would not be helpful in this regard.

For measuring the outcome, it is further necessary to consider the number of victims those have overcome the situation.

For discussing this matter, the learner should keep high patience

The learner

4 to 6 weeks

3. To identify the capability among the people those have survived this heat wave

Discussion with the victims and doctors

Interviews

Knowing the physical and mental strengths

Clear idea about the disturbance of natural calamity

6. Conclusion

The heat wave has the similar affect like other natural calamity. However, the effect is different from earthquake or flood, but it can be considered as a silent killer. It destroys corps, minimizes the rains and most importantly can snatch the lives as well. Therefore, this project has focused on the mental and physical distress of people during and after the heat wave. The learner has included the suitable strategies for reducing the effects of its as well.
