What Is Herenenutics | Aim Of Interpretation

1. Discuss what the authors believed to be the Aim Of Interpretation?

The motto of a good and appropriate interpretation is to make lucid the inner meaning of the text that may help people to understand the hidden meaning of the text accurately.  People's common sense may be enlightened by understanding the implied meaning of a text. A good interpretation of the text may facilitate in making good sense of the text. It is clear that human mind is relieved by the appropriate interpretation. Besides, It may also be said that the accurate information of it is a prick and prod to a heart. Understanding of the implied meaning of the text is significant. It is because the lucidity about the text would not come out without understanding it properly. Here, reading of the text may be proved as ineffective if the implied meaning of the text could not be brought out. For some people, interpretation is a way to brag and exhibit them as the superior to other.

2. What are Fee and Stuart’s Point about every reader being an interpreter?

Every reader needs to understand the implied meaning of the text through plain reading. Every reader works as an interpreter and it is an important factor that readers should know that ways of interpretation and it may also be remembered the likeness to the interpretation that the reader does after understanding the hidden meaning of the text after thoroughly reading of the text. The style of preaching in the Bible should not be taken literally but there may have some figurative meaning. Every reader may read carefully to manipulate the hidden meanings of the words in the Bible. A reader may be a good interpreter if he understands the Words of the Holy Spirit's appropriately.

 3. What is the danger of assuming that our own understanding is the same as The Holy Spirit’s?

The danger may lie upon the assumption that our own understanding is the same as The Holy Spirit’s because it is difficult to understand the language style of the holy text apparently. For example, the concept regarding the symbol of the symbol of the cross may be misinterpreted as Roman cross which has a resemblance to the English alphabetical letter ‘T'. So the concept regarding the primitive Christian culture, customs, languages need to be clear. In case of the language of the Holy Bible, an example may be manipulated. The word "flesh" said by St Paul may be misinterpreted as body especially for English speaking culture. Thus after reading the "Rome 13: 14” portion of the Holy Bible people may think that St Paul is saying about physical appetite. But he actually refers to it the sinful nature, i.e., the self-centered existence.

4. Explain the points of the author about the starting point of our interpretation of the Scriptures. Why is understanding this important?

An interpretation of scripture is required for understanding the nature of the scripture that is implied within it. The understanding of The Holy Bible is necessary to avoid the misinterpretation the Scripture. Historically it is clear that church has recognised and understood that the value of Christ and the Bible is the same. The Scripture is referred to the God's word that is necessary for all the people of all ages and all cultures. The Scripture is not only a Historical account but it is more than this. It is the God's saying to the human being. The God conveys through the Holy Scripture that the God is only one that is He and He Himself is the creator of the world as well as human beings. The main purpose of reading the Bible is to understand it properly and interpret appropriately as well so that people can understand the proper meaning of the Bible. Almost all the available source of communication was applied by the God in order to interpret His Words through the Bible such as genealogies, history, chronicles, various types of law and poetry, proverbs, prophetic oracles riddles drama and so on. Many things become easier to us with the help of the Bible.

5. Write a short journal 200-250 words to explain what you believe to be the challenges for you as you seek to become more proficient on the task of interpreting Scripture? Be specific about the challenges you believe you face and what specific steps may help you to respond to those challenges.

If an individual wants to become more proficient on the task of interpretation of the Scripture he may require an intelligent reading.  It is a more effective way to understand the text carefully. Various aspects and factors that are related to the text need to be known by an individual else he may misinterpret the holy text and such things are semantics, the Jews, the Scriptures, the Greco Roman backgrounds, the languages, the narrative style of the text and another related term about theology. Besides, one may read the text carefully so that the implied meanings of the text would be more lucid to him. Pitfalls in respect of understanding and recognising the text are required for the readers so that good conception is created in his mind and interpretation would be more accurate and clear. Twice or thrice reading of the text is necessary for making a good interpretation of the book. It is necessary to understand His Words that are inscribed in the Holy text. On the other hand, an overview of the interpretation is very much necessary that can make clearer the concept of the text. Thus, it may be clear that a specific strategy needs to be followed for making the clear interpretation of the Holy Scriptures.

6. Explain what the author sees an antidote to bad interpretation.

According to the author, one must avoid the pitfalls in understanding as well as the interpretation of the Bible that may work as an antidote to the misinterpretation of the Bible. The way of reading the text should be known by the readers. A general overview of exegesis is required at the time of reading of the books. Besides, the knowledge of many things is required for the readers such as the languages of the Scriptures, Semitic, the Jews, the Greco Roman backgrounds. All sorts of fundamental sources and instruments are required for making appropriate interpretation of the Scripture.  Readers may read the text carefully and may ask the questions about the text in order to make a clear concept. The most important task for understanding the Bible is the intelligent reading of the task which is the most effective method to avoid misinterpretation of the text.
